A businessman from Pakistan has been getting his hands dirty in an attempt to raise £120,000 for flood victims in his homeland.
Nas Khan, managing director of Jennings-Motor-Group, exchanged his suit for waterproofs and gloves this week to wash as many vehicles as he could.
The challenge, was in aid of the Emaan Foundation, a charity he set up 5 years ago which is striving to buy Life Straw water purifiers and help rebuild a village south of Punjab, Pakistan. The floods only began three months ago but it is already estimated that monsoon rains have killed over 2000 people, causing over £27billion in damages and destroying over 900,00 homes.
Khan arrived on Teesside in 1974 and could not speak English, yet he has gone on to become one of the region’s leading businessmen, employing just under 500 people.
He will hold car washes at the group’s Ford, Mazda and Seat dealerships in Gateshead, Stockton, South Tyneside, Middlesbrough, South Shields, and Sunderland. Other events include a charity meal, cycle ride and an Asian henna night.
